Do you dream of learning the art of spinning with a drop spindle (hand spindle) and a spinning wheel? Now is your chance to try your hand at both the spinning hook, drop spindle, and spinning wheel. In this course, you will gain a fundamental understanding of spinning techniques and materials – and perhaps you will find the tool that suits you best. We will focus on sensory experience and immersion as we gather around the fascinating world of spinning. Come and experience the joy of creating something with your own hands!
The course is held at Copenhagen's weaving house, SKYTTEN. Here you will have the opportunity to work in an inspiring atmosphere with a view of Amagerbrogade. The lessons take place in a room behind the shop. SKYTTEN's owner, archaeologist Maiken, will share exciting stories about the fascinating history of spinning, which both children and adults can get lost in. The instruction is provided by Fria Gemynthe - an experienced spinner.
Please bring your own drop spindle, spinning wheel, and carded wool to the course. There will be access to raw wool as well as smaller spinning tools and materials, so you have everything you need to get started. The shop will be open if you wish to purchase carded wool or other materials during the course. If you are considering investing in a new drop spindle or spinning wheel, we recommend that you order it well in advance of the course. This way, we can ensure that the teaching time is utilized as effectively as possible.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please bring your own lunch. Coffee and tea will be served throughout the day.
